Incident Reports Drop at Azteca Stadium

Incident reports in the Azteca Stadium area dropped by 72.5% during the Mexico-Portugal match, a result of enhanced security measures and the Kukulcán operation.

Incident Reports Drop at Azteca Stadium

According to data from the Command, Control, Computing, Communications and Citizen Contact Center (C5), incident reports in the vicinity of the Azteca Stadium decreased by 72.5% during the match between Mexico and Portugal, compared to other recent mass events. During the reopening of the 'Colossus of Santa Úrsula', the 9-1-1 emergency line received only 14 reports in the area. This figure contrasts with the 51 reports recorded in the América vs Cruz Azul classic in February 2024, as well as with the 79 calls during Don Omar's concert in March 2025, representing a reduction of up to 82%. The C5's general coordinator, Salvador Guerrero Chiprés, highlighted that the decrease was achieved thanks to the Kukulcán operation and the mobility strategy instructed by the head of government, Clara Brugada. 'Among the reported incidents are aggressions against people, injured people from falls, and the presence of touts, with no material damages recorded.' Of the total reports, nine occurred before the start of the match, between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM, with no serious incidents reported. As part of the security strategy for the 2026 World Cup, the C5 increased the number of cameras by 36% at strategic points such as tourist, commercial, lodging, and mobility areas, the AICM, and sports venues, including the stadium. In the case of the venue, the number of devices went from 9,772 to 13,293 cameras. At the city level, the video surveillance network currently reaches 113,814 cameras, with a projection to exceed 119,000 by the month of June. Capital authorities assure that these results consolidate a security model based on technology, inter-institutional coordination, and prevention, in the face of international-level events.
